Lake Geraldine
Little known Lake Geraldine is a new gated community of acreage and estate homes. To get there, just take River Road from US 41 toward Englewood and turn left at East River Road.
Each homesite is four to five acres and zoned agricultural so you have room for horses. Situated along the pristine Myakka River, Lake Geraldine is the focal point for the subdivision, but there are smaller lakes as well. You can canoe, kayak or take a small boat out on the lakes or go down to the community boat dock and get out into the Myakka River, which is designated a wild and scenic river by the state of Florida.
Take a boat ride up to Snook Haven for the Sunday music or travel downstream to Charlotte Harbor and ultimately, the Gulf of Mexico.
Across the road from the property is Myakka State Forest, 8,000 acres of unspoiled preserve also bordering the Myakka River and providing a home for hundreds of birds and animals. Only trails, a few picnic tables and primitive camping are allowed.
One luxury home built by John Cannon is over 5,300 sq. feet of living space, 6 bedrooms, 4 baths and every imaginable upgrade for $2 million. Smaller homes begin at $725,000.
From Lake Geraldine you can easily get back on River Road, which is a main connector road to I-75 or head toward Englewood and go to the beaches and fine restaurants on Manasota Key. Midway between Venice and North Port, shopping is only a few minutes away, and Manatee Community College and the vast Thomas Ranch development are right around the corner.
If you want to build or buy a large home with acreage, this is the up and coming area.
