Southwest Florida Fishing
Charlotte Harbor, designated by Cruising World magazine in the Best Cruising Cruising Grounds in the U.S., is at the heart of Southwest Florida. The Intracoastal Waterway crosses the harbor, and both the Peace River and Myakka River flow into the harbor then on to the Gulf of Mexico.
Whether it’s deep sea fishing or backwater fishing or just fishing off a dock, you can reel in redfish, trout, snook, snapper or grouper and have fresh fish for dinner. The World’s Richest Tarpon Tournament is held every summer off Boca Grande, and the pristine waters of Charlotte Harbor plays host to numerous fishing tournaments.
Many residents also put out crab traps to catch their own blue crabs and stone crabs. Every community has numerous boat ramps and fishing piers, so grab a pole and reel in a big one!
