From 1955 to 1978, Cape Haze, Florida was the location of world-famous Cape Haze Marine Lab founded by Dr. Eugenie Clark, the famous shark specialist. Here the scientists would catch sharks and place them in big tanks for marine research. You may have read about her in National Geographic. Now Mote Marine Lab has moved to Sarasota on Lido Key and expanded into many areas of underwater research.
Cape Haze, Florida has phenomenal homes located on the north end of Placida Harbor. Here home sites are oversized – one-half acre and larger - and private streets flow through and around natural Florida vegetation. Many properties are on deep water canals or on the Intracoastal Waterway. The Cape Haze community of Eagle Preserve sits just off Highway 775 on Lemon Bay, and is neighbored by a nature preserve with stately bald eagles and many species of birds. You can take a boat to one of the barrier islands and enjoy fishing and sandy beaches. All of these communities are accessible to amenities and activities like eco-tours, nature preserves, championship golf courses, the Charlotte Harbor estuary, state parks and miles of fishing.
